The latest generation of Tamron 15-30mm f / 2.8 wide-angle zoom lens with enhanced AF and image stabilizer performance and even better picture quality in challenging light conditions are here!
Over time, Tamron has created many great lenses, but some of them really stand out to the rest of the world for their excellent performance, even compared to more expensive competitors. One of them is Tamron’s legendary SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 – one of the best ever made wide-angle zoom lenses.
But even this lens can be improved, and now we have the pleasure of introducing our successor Tamron SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 Di VC USD G2.
Faster and more stable
Like the other Tamron G2 Series lenses, the new 15-30mm f / 2.8 is equipped with two microprocessor units that provide significantly faster autofocus and even better performance with Tamron’s built-in image stabilization system VC (vibration compensation).
Improved VC images can hold a long enough shutter speed up to 4.5 steps, more than usual, to avoid camera shake. Considering the large aperture of this lens, f / 2.8 at all focal lengths, the photographer can capture sharp images in low light conditions without a tripod!
The ultrasonic quiet focus motor (USD) that provides auto focus is not only fast and accurate, but also very quiet. If you are about to photograph wedding ceremonies, this is a lens to choose from. Another valuable feature is a short minimum focus, only 28 cm across the focus range, which can be used to capture close-ups while surrounding the area to make the images even more interesting.
Strong design Tamron SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a very well designed lens designed for professional use with a durable and weather-resistant body that protects valuable optics and electronics from the inside.
The fluorescence on the front of the lens element has been supplemented with a new formula that is more resistant to scratches, dirt, oil and fingerprints. It also makes easier lens care.
Optical without compromise
But no matter how lens is durable, the most important thing is how it works optically. And in this respect, Tamron’s professional wide-angle zoom is even more impressive. The advanced optical structure consists of 18 elements, arranged in 13 groups.
The front section has a large glass-like aspherical element and two further aspherical elements on the back are used to ensure low distortion and extreme sharpness throughout the image across diaphragm ranges. Three elements made of LD glass (low dispersion), prevent chromatic aberrations, and contribute to the amazing resolution of this lens.
The Achilles heel of a wide-angle zoom lens is a large curved front element that senses the stray light and reflections coming from sources at the edges of the image. Thanks to it, the Tamron SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a brand new coating called AX (Anti-reflection eXpand), specially designed to reduce peripheral light effects. Together with Tamron’s highly effective and highly rated eBand and BBAR coatings, it provides the same high level of resistance to reflections, stray light and abundance throughout the surface.
With its amazing optical performance, the Tamron SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 Di VC USD G2 is truly a great lens for landscaping, travel and architectural photography, or anyone who needs a wide angle!
Another important benefit is that the new G2 lens is compatible with the Tamron Tap-in Console – a small add-on that can be attached to the bezel and connected to a computer using a USB cable. Together with Tamron’s special software, you can fine-tune autofocus and make future firmware updates.
And as a complement to Tamron, it has been possible to incorporate a rear filter holder into a gelatin sheet filter. But for technical reasons, this only applies to Canon’s lens version.
